I've got GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease) and as such, if I don't take an acid reducer, I'm in a world of hurt. When Prilosec first went OTC, it meant I was actually paying *more* for the medication than with insurance, so naturally I tended to go for the generic when available. Unfortunately, neither the brand-name nor the generic was in user-friendly packaging - it was impossible to get the pills out of the blister-pack without either gouging my fingers, or resorting to scissors.
Well, Prilosec's manufacturer's finally improved the packaging so that no weapons were required - and I'm back to buying the brand name. The extra cost for brand-name vs. generic is worth it (about 5.00 a package).
Don't get me wrong, the packaging still stinks. Why on earth do a blister-pack when a bottle would be so much easier? And even the improved blister-pack requires a fair bit of manual dexterity and strengh to use - you have to push the pill through a very thick layer of paper to get it out.

I took this product and all went well the first two days. This was the first time I'd tried it. The third evening within half an hour of taking it or less I began having a severe reaction to it. There wasn't a place on my body from my toes to the top of my head that did not itch severly and feel in pain it was so bad. Of course it was a time release 24 hour tablet and it took about 30 hours for the effects to finally wear off. Just thought I should warn it's possible some people can't take this. I really wanted to as I was so pleased it seemed to be working the first 2 days. This is only the second time I've ever had this particular reaction to a drug and first for an over the counter one.

I have been a daily heartburn sufferer for years and nothing the Dr prescribed helped:-( Several people mentioned Prilosec being good and I tried it and liked it. I also have a dog who some times suffers from vomiting and the vet told me give her a Prilosec on an empty stomach. She is 44 lbs. If it's a smaller dog I would cut it in half. I tried it one morning after she threw up and it helped her, but she had bad gas afterwards!

I have been on prescription heartburn medicine for years, both radinidine and acidfex and neither worked for me. I heard about Prilosec and starting taking it not expecting it to work as well as it does. They said it may take a while, but for me it started working right away and after being on it and taking it first thing in the morning with a large glass of water I feel great all day long and even at bed time when I use to have my worst heartburn. Also I can eat things that use to give me heartburn before that I really liked such as tomatoes, pizza, etc. without getting heartburn. It's kind of pricey at most stores, so thanks for having a great price on it!I would suggest using a sharp knife to cut around the pill on the back of the blister pack to get the pill out, I use my thumb nail.....

My husband has suffered from acid reflux for years. Finally convinced him to see a specialist about it and found out he has an ulcer. Doctor put him on this product and he hasn't had ANY acid reflux since! It's a miracle. My only complaint is getting the pills out of the foil sleeve. Sometime's it's hard popping them out, but I guess that's a good safety measure to prevent kids from accidentally getting them out.
